ملخص:Since its creation an impressive 150 years ago, the "Army Cadet Force" has strived to instil the core values of self-discipline, teamwork and civic responsibility into its young members. This is achieved by means of tried and tested training packages that include expeditions, military skills such as shooting and fieldcraft, first aid and community projects. Parallel bodies abroad - in Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, the West Indies and elsewhere - are also described and celebrated, together with the history and achievements of the brother organisation, the CCF. Mike Ryan presents a study of an all-inclusive society that seeks to provide key skills to its members, thirty per cent of whom go on to join the armed forces. At a time when the young are so often seen as out of control and lacking direction, this book honours these cadets who are a credit to their country and yet seldom get recognition for their achievements.
