ملخص:This book introduces the non-specialist to Egypt, one of the most important and influential countries in the Middle East and North Africa. It begins by discussing the historic uprising that captured the world's attention in January/February 2011, and explores the tumultuous aftermath that produced rapid changes in political regimes and economic turmoil. The book then examines the central features of Egyptian history and geography that shaped the country, followed by a discussion of economic and social challenges including population growth, education, unemployment, urbanization, and environmental sustainability. Major religious communities and Egypt's foreign relations with the United States, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and other important countries are also explored. The concluding chapter examines the country's current and future challenges and strategies for addressing them. The authors draw on the latest scholarly research on Egyptian politics, history, economics, and religion to provide a well-informed and accessible introduction to this pivotal country.
