This work describes the development of ground equipment used to service and maintain aircraft in the RAF since 1918 and the development of that equipment to the modern complex machines that are required to service the aircraft of today. The descriptions are aimed at the general reader and students of aviation technology who may have questions about the clutter of machines that currently attend aircraft. They have been subdivided to show the various systems for maintaining aircraft in conditions of operational efficiency and reliability in all weathers, for maintaining passenger comfort and safety, and on the rare occasion to aid with the salvaging of aircraft.
