Thesis (Ph.D.) - Rand Graduate School, 2002.
The two sections of this dissertation discuss cataract surgery and breast cancer treatment in older patients. A randomized clinical trial of older patients with cataracts forms the basis of a cost-effectiveness analysis of several approaches to cataract surgery. An evidence-based decision analysis is used to map the uncertainty associated with treatment decision for older patients with newly diagnosed early-stage breast cancer.
