ملخص:This book identifies the motives behind the development of peaceful nuclear energy programs in the Gulf states as well as the local and regional implications of such programs, and examines the role of nuclear energy in the context of Gulf energy security and climate change. The inherent risks and opportunities of managing nuclear power are explored through a discussion of security infrastructure, non-proliferation standards and the role of international cooperation in the field of nuclear technology and long-term development. The book also analyzes factors pertaining to the economic viability of the nuclear energy option and its political and social implications, drawing on international experiences of existing civilian nuclear programs in other parts of the world. Examples presented in this volume include case studies of Japan and Germany, and a comparative outlook assessing the respective programs of Iran, Israel, Pakistan and India.
