Throughout World War II, RAF Coastal Command waged a long and bitter battle against Germany's submarine command. Thousands of sorties were flown around the coasts of Britain, in the North Sea, the Bay of Biscay and out into the Atlantic. As the war progressed, so Coastal Command's anti-U-boat operations extended to the waters around Iceland, the Azores, off the Spanish coast and into the Mediterranean. Coastal Command lost over 750 aircraft, but sank over 220 German and Italian submarines. The author lists all the U-boats destroyed, and gives Italian submarines.
