In World War 2 the unofficial title 'Wolfpack' belonged to the 56th Fighter Group assigned to the 8th Air Force in England. Led for most of its existence by the brilliant tactician Hubert Zemke the group was the first to receive the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt in the US before leaving for England in January 1943. Unique in retaining the Thunderbolt when the rest of the 8th's fighter groups re-equipped with Mustangs, the 56th ended the war with more aerial victories than any other Army Air Force group Air-to-air combat was limited in Vietnam compared to the Korean or Second World wars. The author does a credible job of examining the air combat that did take place, examining the tactics, equipment, and the personnel of both sides.
