ملخص:Providing a brief theoretical as well as historical perspective on the subject {u2013} the present work is a descriptive and analytical study of the civil-military relations in developing counties in general and in the case of Bangladesh in particular. Based mainly on an indepth survey of the available literature, the study examines the basis of repeated military intervention in politics and the reasons for the failure of democracy in Bangladesh and also some allied issues such as the impact of modernization on the role of army in politics, the strategies applied by military rulers for legitimizing their rule, the causes for coups and counter-coups, and the specific nature of Bangladesh military establishment and its ideology.
