ملاحظة الأطروحة:Thesis M.A. Royal Roads University 2008. ملخص:This study sought to investigate how the Sheikh Zayed Private Academy (SZPA) can further develop the school service program to better serve students and community. Community service, service learning, service{u2019}s roots in experiential and civic education, and the outcomes of these programs are highlighted. Also investigated are existing school service programs, theories behind them, program implementation strategies, reasons for student involvement, and outcomes for all stakeholders. A community-based action research (CBAR) approach was utilized, involving two focus groups and two interviews. Participant groups included students, school personnel, and two community members. Findings affirmed that service has only positive outcomes for all stakeholders involved in the serving relationship. It was concluded that while Islam does not impede students providing service, Emirati culture can provide some challenges for girls providing service beyond the school community. All participant groups believed that these cultural challenges could be overcome.
